Ham Chatting carries voice and text between people on the same network. To use it you agree not to send — by voice, by message, or in your station name — anything that is:
There is no tolerance for any of it. You are responsible for everything you say and send.
We read every report and answer within 24 hours. Ham Chatting has no accounts and no server, so there is no central copy of anything to delete and no account to close: content exists only on the phones of the people on your network. What a report does is block the station on your phone immediately and tell us who it was, so we can advise you and act on a pattern of abuse.
Ham Chatting is an intercom over Wi-Fi. It never transmits on the amateur bands and cannot key a radio. No amateur licence is needed to use it. It is not an emergency service; do not rely on it where a life depends on getting through.
The app works only between phones on the same local network. Whoever runs that network (you, a club, a venue) can see that devices on it are talking to each other. The CALL channel is open to anyone on the network; the twelve working channels are encrypted with the code the group shares, and anyone who has the code can read that channel.
Ham Chatting is provided free, as is, without warranty of any kind. We are not liable for loss arising from its use, to the extent the law allows. It includes open-source software under its own licences, listed in the app under About → Licences & Notices and on the licences page. Your use is also subject to the terms of the store you downloaded it from.
What the app keeps on your phone, and the little that ever leaves it, is set out in the privacy policy.
If these rules change in substance, the version number above goes up and the app asks everyone to accept the new version at their next join.
