Ham Imaging

Receive & transmit ham-radio images (SSTV)
A41UX / Unixeerβ„’

Turn your phone into a complete picture station. Hold it near any HT or rig speaker and watch SSTV pictures paint in as they arrive β€” then pick a photo, add your callsign, and let the phone sing the image back out as sound. Already recorded the pass? Hand the app the video or the audio file and trim the pictures out of it. Full picture contacts with no extra hardware, no internet and no backend.

Trim a Recording β€” Video or Audio

The Tools tab takes a recording you already have and pulls the SSTV pictures out of it β€” a video, or an audio file such as a pass recorded in Ham Satting or a session from Ham Listening. Decoded by the phone itself, with no upload and no internet.

The app looks through the whole recording for SSTV headers and marks each one on the waveform, listing the ones in view with their mode and times β€” Robot 36 2:14 β†’ 2:51 β€” which you tap to fill in. They are hints: nothing moves until you say so, and a quietly recorded transmission may not be marked at all.

You place the two ends. Drag the handles, type the times exactly, nudge by 1, 3 or 5 seconds, or zoom in with + and βˆ’ on whichever end you are working β€” down to twenty milliseconds across. A pass often carries several pictures in different modes rather than repeating one, so the recording stays loaded: trim, decode, save, then move to the next. Pictures you have already done stay marked, and the mode picker returns to Auto after each decode so forcing a mode for one never carries into the next.

A picture is stamped with when it was received, worked out from the recording's own file name plus how far into it you trimmed β€” not with the day you got round to decoding it. Save WAV hands the trimmed audio to the share sheet for Files, mail or any other SSTV software. Nothing here goes on the air.

Guided SSTV QSO

A QSO tab that walks you through a complete contact on one picture. Call CQ or hunt a station you can hear, and step through the exchange β€” your callsign, grid and RSV report are written onto the picture for you, plus a short message of your own on the CQ and the 73. You choose where the text sits β€” Split puts the identity row at the top, which decodes first. You stay in charge of the radio throughout: the app never keys your rig, never decides a reply has arrived and never ticks a step for you. An interrupted contact picks up where you left off, and a finished one is kept under Past contacts with its pictures.

πŸ“₯

Save to Photos

Copy any picture β€” from the Gallery, from a QSO step, or from a past contact β€” into your phone's photo library with one tap. Always explicit β€” nothing is ever added to your photos on its own.

πŸ“‘

Decode SSTV Off-Air

Hold the phone near any speaker and watch received SSTV pictures paint in from the microphone as the audio arrives β€” no cables required.

πŸ“€

Transmit Your Own Images

Pick a photo, overlay your callsign and grid, preview it, then let the phone play it out as SSTV audio into your rig's mic.

🎞️

20 SSTV Modes

Encodes and decodes the Scottie (1, 2, 3, 4, DX), Martin (1, 2, 3), Robot (12, 24, 36, 72), PD (50, 90, 120, 160, 180, 240, 290) and Wraase SC2-180 families β€” every everyday HF and ISS mode β€” with automatic mode detection.

🎯

Auto Mode Detect & Tuning

The mode dropdown defaults to Auto (VIS), reading the VIS header to pick the mode automatically and remembering your last-used mode between launches, with a live level meter and a decode-confidence read-out to help you get a clean picture. Auto detect allows for a receiver tuned slightly off frequency β€” the whole VIS header shifts together, and it is read relative to that offset.

πŸ—‚οΈ

Decode a Saved Recording

Beside the Receive button, pick a recording and Ham Imaging decodes it exactly as if the audio were arriving from the radio β€” recover a pass you recorded but could not watch, or retry a noisy signal at leisure. Since v4.1.0 it takes WAV, MP3, M4A, AAC, OGG and FLAC β€” including the kind of OGG a SatNOGS recording of a pass is, on every phone. WAVs can be 8, 16, 24 or 32-bit, mono or stereo at any sample rate; a stereo file is averaged rather than half-discarded, and a recording that was cut off is decoded as far as it goes. A recording longer than any single SSTV mode is offered to the Tools tab instead, with one tap to get there β€” one file read whole gives you its first picture, and Tools gives you all of them. If what you have is a video, Tools takes that too.

πŸ“

Slant Correction

Recovers the true line timing from the signal's sync pulses and corrects the slant, so pictures come out square instead of leaning.

ARISS & Other SSTV Satellites

Built for International Space Station SSTV events β€” and for the other satellites that send pictures down. Automatic mode detection picks up whichever SSTV mode is in use, and Clean export strips the app watermark and gives you the bare picture at its native SSTV size β€” up to 800 px β€” which is what ARISS asks for. Nothing in the decoding is ISS-specific: if your receiver can hear the downlink, the picture paints in the same way, whichever satellite sent it. Pass predictions and tracking are Ham Satting's job β€” this app handles the picture.

πŸ–ΌοΈ

Picture Gallery

Received and transmitted pictures kept together with their mode, UTC, frequency and callsign β€” ready to review, share or export.

🧹

Clean Export & ADIF

Share a watermarked copy, export a clean copy with no overlay, or share a ready-made ADIF file you can import straight into Ham Logging.

πŸ“»

No Extra Hardware

Acoustic coupling to any handheld or base rig. Everything runs on the phone β€” no dongle, no internet connection, no server.

πŸ†”

Licensed Operation

Receiving needs no licence, but a valid amateur radio licence is required to transmit β€” you always operate within your own privileges.

πŸŒ™

Light & Dark

A clean theme in light or dark with adjustable font size β€” comfortable on the bench or out in the field. Works fully offline.
