It is an amateur-radio internet digital-voice client for eight networks — M17, EchoLink, AllStarLink, DMR, D-STAR, System Fusion, P25 and NXDN. You connect over the internet, pick a reflector, room or node, and key up to talk with real operators — with or without a rig. It is a client for networks you already belong to.
Eight: M17 (open Codec2 voice), EchoLink, AllStarLink, DMR, D-STAR, System Fusion, P25 and NXDN. DMR is reached on BrandMeister, as a radio-less terminal over ODTP. The voice codecs the five digital networks use are built into the app — nothing to download, no plug-in and no dongle.
Yes. A valid amateur radio licence is required to transmit, and you operate within your own privileges. Before your first transmission the app asks you to accept its House Rules, which start with exactly that; you can read them again at any time on the app's About page. Ham Voicing is a client for networks you already belong to — bring your callsign and the credentials (IDs / node numbers / passwords) for each network you use.
The microphone captures your voice while you are keyed up on push-to-talk (tap to key up, tap again to unkey) so it can be sent to the network. Audio is captured only while you transmit, and is not recorded or stored. Without mic access you can still listen but not transmit.
Network access, to reach reflectors, rooms and nodes — including local-network access, so it can reach a node or hotspot on the same Wi-Fi. On Android 13 and later it also asks to post notifications, which is what carries the ongoing notice while the app keeps receiving in the background. Audio is processed entirely on your device; no voice reaches a Unixeer server. The full list is in the privacy policy.
They are stored only on your device — secrets like network passwords in the device secure store. We (Unixeer) never receive them. Your callsign and voice are sent only to the third-party network you choose to connect to.
No — on the air, amateur radio is public. Through the networks' gateways your voice and callsign can be received by anyone, and the networks are operated by independent third parties with their own policies.
Tap the flag beside “Recent talkers” (on EchoLink, beside “On this node”). The list follows the channel while it is open: a new talker appears at once, and on DMR, P25 and NXDN a number turns into the callsign as soon as it is known. Mute stops you hearing that station at once, and it stays muted after the app closes; the station is not told. Report mutes it too and opens an email to us with the station, the network and the time filled in — we read every report and answer within 24 hours. We do not run these networks and cannot remove anyone from them; their own operators can. AllStarLink does not say who is talking, only which node you are linked to, so there you disconnect instead.
